A brief history...

...Tralee is named after the River Lee which flows through & into Tralee Bay, Founded in the 13th century by an Anglo Norman Family, John Fitzthomas Built a magnificent castle (destroyed & rebuilt & destroyed) & Dominican Priory here in around 1243, Tralee was the Strong Hold of The Earls of Desmond, ReputedlyPharaohs daughter Scotia died near here in battle around 1,700 B.C., Sir Edward Denny was granted the Town land by England's Queen Elizabeth I in 1587, Through turbulent times it has been Burnt to the Ground more than once - around 1580 - again in 1652 Oliver Cromwell's soldiers quashed a rebellion that started in 1641 - much of Tralee was destroyed at that time. Tralee was the last sight of Ireland for many who emigrated from Blennerville port during the Great Famine. During the Fight for Independence Sir Roger Casement arrived to Tralee's Banna Strand by German U Boat to oversee the drop off of arms, Balllyseedy Memorial commemorates one of the worst atrocities of the fight for independence when nine irregular prisoners were roped to a land-mine & killed...

Today Tralee is lively Shopping, Tourism, Educational, Commercial and Service centre. Tralee is the seat of local government. Boasting modern Conference Centers, Hotels, Theatre, Historical Buildings, Sporting Facilities - Tralee has all the facilities of a Capital Town.
